Celebrate St. John's Day in NY Mills
This Sunday, June 24, St. Peter's Church in New York Mills will be celebrating an outdoor St. John's Day service at 9 a.m. in Smith Park, followed by a picnic of fellowship and refreshment.
For more than a thousand years, the Nativity of St. John the Baptist (better known as Midsummer's Day) was a high festival on the calendar, celebrating the glories of creation and the promise of redemption on this longest day of the year. Bonfires were burned, St. John's Wort harvested, and couples and cattle alike were blessed.
The public is invited to attend this special service.
