Charles Allen Bergland
Charles Allen Bergland, 69, of Perham, passed away unexpectedly at his home on June 16.
Charlie was born March 30, 1944 in Hawley, Minn. to Elmer and Clara (Kleiv) Bergland. The family moved to East Grand Forks in 1955. He graduated from East Grand Forks Central High School in 1962. He was a plumber by trade but a jack of all trades. He worked at Economy Plumbing for 24 years. Then he owned the Lightning Bar in Alvarado, Minn., as well as Bergland Plumbing with his brother Wally, and later went solo as "Just Call Charlie" in Perham, where he built a loyal customer base.
He was united in marriage to Arlene (Halvorson) in Bygland Lutheran Church on Aug. 15, 1964. She survives along with three children, Kari (Bruce) Scilley, Perham, Chad (KayLynn), East Grand Forks, Minn., and Joel, Moorhead, Minn.; two grandchildren, Nick Delaney and Whitney Delaney; two step-grandchildren, Lacy and Nick Boushee; sister, Marilyn Johnson, Grand Forks; brother, Dennis, Hazen, N.D.; and several nieces and nephews.
Charlie was a member of Bygland Lutheran Church. He enjoyed creating projects in his shop, fishing, music, movies, cooking, camping and in later years, golfing.
He is preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother, Irving; brothers, Orris and Wally; brother-in-law, Odell; and nephew, Larry Johnson.
A memorial service is at 11 a.m., Thursday, June 20, Bygland Lutheran Church, Bygland, Minn., with visitaton one hour prior. Inurnment will be in Bygland Cemetery.
