Chili Feed, Auction and Dance to raise money for "The Wall"
On Saturday, April 4, the New York Mills VFW Post 3289 will hold a chili feed, silent auction, and dance to help raise money for the Vietnam Memorial Traveling Wall coming to the area this June. The chili feed begins at 4 p.m. and a free-will donation is suggested. The silent auction will run from 4-9:30 p.m. Winners do not need to be present to win. A dance by Rode Dawgz, a classic rock and roll band, will go from 8 p.m. to midnight. For more information, please call the VFW at 218 385-3510.
The Vietnam Memorial Traveling Wall will be hosted by the VFW Post 3289 in New York Mills from June 4-7. This 80 percent replica of "The Wall" contains the names of the 58,253 American military personnel who were direct casualties of the war, including about 1,300 who are still considered Missing in Action. The American Veterans Traveling Tribute is the largest Wall replica traveling the USA. The Tribute also includes the Cost of Freedom Memorial-a record of all those who gave their lives for our freedom since Vietnam, a 911 Memorial, an art display called Vietnam Remembered, and other information for viewing, education and respect.
The Traveling Wall will be set-up near the New York Mills VFW and will be free and open to the public 24 hours a day. The ITOW Veterans Museum is helping with promotion and advertising. Shuttles will be available during the day between the Wall and the ITOW Veterans Museum in Perham. To learn more about the American Veterans Traveling Tribute visit their website at www.avtt.org.
