City annexes small industrial parcel

The city of Perham has annexed a little over two acres of commercial and industrial property owned by Professional Agronomy Services LLC.

Professional Agronomy petitioned the city to annex the property, which they acquired from BNSF Railway.

To compensate Perham Township for any tax revenues lost through the annexation, the city will reimburse the township its share of the taxes for five years. This will be paid out in two installments of about $634 each, on May 1, 2013 and Jan. 1, 2014.

A public hearing on the annexation was held at a Feb. 19 meeting of the Perham Planning Commission. A motion made in favor of the annexation passed without dissent, and the city council gave final approval at its meeting on Monday.

The annexation means the city boundaries have been extended to include the parcel, which encompasses 2.08 acres abutting Professional Agronomy and, to a lesser extent, Kenny’s Candy.

The annexed area is not presently served by public sewer facilities, and it is currently undeveloped.
