City Pages’ ‘Best Female Vocalist’ to perform in NY Mills
Minnesota native Dana Thompson, named Best Female Vocalist by the Twin Cities publication City Pages, will perform with Eric Christopher at the New York Mills Regional Cultural Center this Saturday.
Born in Sandstone and raised in Hibbing, Thompson graduated from high school in Duluth and has lived in Minneapolis for most of her adult life. Music and writing have been integral throughout her life, whether through theater, choir, singing, or writing songs with bands.
A founding member of The Strawdogs, Hot Head Fiasco, Marina Glass, and The Minor Planets, Thompson has also fronted her own band, Dana Thompson and the North Coast.
She has toured the U.S. and Europe in support of her critically-acclaimed first solo record, “Ox.”
Currently, she is performing with The Minor Planets in support of their new record, “Shadow in the Water,” and is in pre-production for her second solo record.
Eric Christopher is a winner of a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, and is a winner of the RockyGrass Bluegrass Competition.
He has toured nationally with bluegrass legend James King, and has performed or recorded with dozens of other bluegrass and Americana artists, including Alan Munde, Vic Chesnutt, The High 48s and Tina Schlieske.
Christopher and Thompson, along with two percussionists, will perform at the cultural center this Saturday, May 11 at 7:30 p.m.
There is a cost for admission.
