Concert by New York City-based rock band a highlight of Holmes art weekend

A weekend full of art, music and more is planned as part of the Sixth Annual Holmes Art Show November 19-22 at the Historic Holmes Theatre in Detroit Lakes. One of the highlights of the weekend will be a performance by New York City "power pop trio" GrooveLily.

Area art patrons will have the opportunity to take in work by some of the area's best artists Thursday through Sunday, November 19 through 22. More than 20 artists will display paintings, sculpture, pottery, glasswork, collage and other fine arts. There will also be a cash and carry boutique area featuring prints, jewelry, note cards, ornaments and more. Artists will be on hand throughout the weekend for demonstrations. The Holmes Art Show is free and open to the public.

The show kicks off with a special "Celebrate Art" artist reception on Thursday, November 19, from 5-7:30 p.m. There will be music by local musicians as well as a cash bar and hors d'oeuvres. The show will continue from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on Friday and Sunday, and Saturday from 10 a.m.-7:30 p.m.

The Holmes Art Show is known for attracting some of the most well-known area artists. This year's show includes work from Donna Aase, Fern Belling, Dee Bowman, Connie Bruse, Dale Cook, Ellen Diederich, Barb Groth, DeVaughn Kolke, Becky Mitchell, David Norstad, Marion Otnes, Gaylen Peterson, Durland Rislund, J. Brakken Rourke, Eric Santwire, Jerry Schutz, Cathy Svare-Oehler, Valerie Voigt, JoAnn Wold and more. This year's feature artist is Sandi Dahl. Dahl's pastel painting "Lake Country Ridge" was selected to be used in the promotion of this year's show.

On Saturday, November 21 at 7:30 p.m., New York City-based band GrooveLily will take the stage. GrooveLily is known for combining folk, pop, rock and jazz into original, witty songs featuring lush musical textures and soaring vocals.

The Lakes Area Community Concert Band will perform a free concert on Sunday at 4 p.m. in the Holmes Theatre.
