County board OKs veterans outreach
The Otter Tail County Veterans Service Office has entered into an operational enhancement grant contract with the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs.
The grant will be used to provide outreach to the county’s veterans, to assist in the reintegration of combat veterans into society, and to collaborate with other social service agencies, educational institutions and other community organizations.
Grant monies should help enhance services offered to Otter Tail County veterans, reduce homelessness among veterans, and enhance the operations of the County Veterans Service Office.
Otter Tail County Commissioners approved the grant contract at their Oct. 22 meeting.
The Fergus Falls veterans’ office phone number is 218-998-8605. Veterans can also call the New York Mills office at 218-385-5540.
Services currently include, but are not limited to:
-Providing advocacy for military veterans, their dependents and survivors;
-Assisting in applying for state and federal veteran’s benefits, and;
-Providing information about entitlements that include compensation for service-connected disabilities, non-service connected pensions, death benefits, educational assistance, home loan guarantees and comprehensive medical care for physical and mental health conditions.
