County to go smoke free
Starting Jan. 1, 2013, Otter Tail County buildings, grounds and vehicles will be smoke free.
The new policy, approved by the county board of commissioners, will apply to county employees, visitors, contractors and others.
County Wellness Coordinator, Janet Lindberg, presented a packet of information that will be provided to county employees for information regarding the upcoming implementation of the Smoke Free Grounds policy. Employees will receive the information three times before the start date.
The county board is also looking into initiating a Tobacco Free Policy, which would include the banning of chewing tobacco from county buildings and grounds.
The county Wellness Committee will proceed with the process to go tobacco free by 2014. A final decision on this matter will also be made by the county board.
