The Otter Tail County Sheriff's Department said two potential scams were averted over the weekend.
The scams, which involved MoneyPac cards associated with PayPal, were reported by county residents who did not take the bait from con artists operating via telephone.
MoneyPac cards can be used to fund PayPal accounts, but also can be used to fleece consumers, according to law enforcement agencies and the Minnesota Better Business Bureau.
Con artists try to trick consumers into loading their MoneyPac cards with cash and to divulge the card number. Officials warn consumers to never give out their serial numbers.
