Cross-country teams sweep season finale
In a tune-up race for the upcoming section meet in Bagley, both cross-country teams ran away from competition in the season finale at Park Rapids.
"This was a great tune-up for sections, because we saw basically every team in the section today minus one or two," Head Coach Jeff Morris said. "All the teams we know are going to be a factor for the team titles were there."
The varsity squads ran a practice round at Bagley earlier in the season during an underclassmen race and are familiar with the course.
"Bagley is a course we know pretty well. We know what's out there and both teams have high expectations."
The boys, currently ranked number one in the state, are almost a lock for the title having routinely bested all the teams they will face at sections this season.
The girls, ranked tenth, have similar aspirations.
"The girls have got to run really well. They have to go out there and do what they've been doing."
At Park Rapids, the boys team made no mistake about their conference dominance placing seven in the top 11 spots and outdistanced second place Thief River Falls by more than 80 points.
The girls finished 22 points ahead of second place Warroad.
Park Rapids and Roseau were just eight and 15 points behind second place.
As has been typical of Perham races this year, first place was a lock and the battle was for runners-up.
The section meet will be held Friday, Oct. 29, in Bagley. The girls race at 4 p.m., while the boys take off at approximately 4:30 p.m. The top two teams on both sides will advance to state meet, held Nov. 6, at St. Olaf College, in Northfield.
