Cunniff concedes race for District 8B

Democratic candidate Bob Cunniff conceded the race for Minnesota's District 8B House seat last night, stating that he will not pursue legal arguments after the automatic recount is completed. Cunniff was in a razor-thin race with incumbent candidate, Republican Mary Franson.

DFL Chair Ken Martin released the following statement:

"We want to extend our thanks to Bob Cunniff and his supporters for running an outstanding campaign. Though the outcome was not what we had hoped, we remain proud of Bob's efforts and all the work we have done in Otter Tail County and Douglas County. We are grateful to all those who worked with us throughout the campaign and in the last few weeks.

"While Minnesota has had its fair share of close elections in recent years, this one proved yet again that every single vote matters. In close races like this, we are reminded of how fortunate we are to have a world-class election system in our state, which will ensure that every vote is counted.

"We would like to thank Otter Tail County Auditor Wayne Stein and Douglas County Auditor Char Rosenow, as well as their staff, for all of their work administering the election and overseeing the recount. Thanks also to the volunteers from both campaigns who worked so hard to make sure that the recount was carried out fairly and quickly."
