D-G-F eliminates Perham in 8AA softball playoffs
GLYNDON — Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton pitcher Sydney Honek threw a complete game and gave up only one hit as the No. 4 Rebels defeated No. 5 Perham 10-1 at the Minnesota Class 1A, Section 6 softball tournament on Wednesday.
Morgan Byer got Perham’s lone hit in the second inning, a two-out single to right field.
Perham manufactured a run in the first inning and took a 1-0 lead when Sydney Roberts scored on a RBI grounder to second base by Allie Doll.
Byer had a long fly to centerfield that was just off Kayla Feigum’s glove that was ruled an error negating the sophomore’s second hit of the game.
Back-to-back three error innings in the second and third innings allowed six runs to score providing plenty of runs for Honek and the Rebels.
D-G-F added insurance runs scoring twice in the fifth and sixth innings.
Feigum and Alyson Brenna each had three RBI for the Rebels.
Perham finishes the season with a record of 8-10.
D-G-F (14-6) will play top-seeded Fergus Falls (9-9) at Frazee in double-elimination play Thursday. The Otters eliminated No. 8 Pelican Rapids 15-0.
No. 2 Hawley (14-3) advanced with an 18-1 victory over No. 7 Breckenridge (2-12). No. 3 Ottertail Central (13-6) was upset by No. 6 Barnesville 2-1 in Battle Lake.
The No. 6 Trojans (10-8) will face Hawley in the next round.
