Darlene Laverne Steinbach was born on March 16, 1943 in Perham to the late Vernon and Laurine (Haavig) Bauck. Darlene attended Homestead Township Country School until transferring to New York Mills High School where she graduated with the Class of 1961. On Sept. 12, 1961, she was united in marriage to James R. Steinbach at Holy Cross Church in Butler. Their marriage was blessed with five children. Jim and Darlene chose to create a life for their family on the family dairy farm in Homestead Township.

Darlene could most often be found on her lawnmower, in one of her many beautiful flower gardens, cooking, or entertaining her host of friends and family. In her few quiet moments, she enjoyed drinking a cup of coffee while quilting and embroidering.

A special place was held in her heart for each one of her grandchildren and her great-grandchild. She spent many happy hours teaching them and passing on to them her love of cooking, gardening and sewing.
