The top four essays submitted to this year's 19th annual contest will each receive $500. Anyone may enter the contest and submit an essay of no more than 750 words debating this year's philosophy question: "Does Poetry Matter?" Essays need to take a position either yes, poetry does matter, or no, it does not.

Last year's essay winners were David Eckel of Clayton, N.C., Barbara Betcher of Red Wing, Minn., Rayelle Hite of Battle Lake and Leif Wallin of Minneapolis.

Essays may be submitted by mail to New York Mills Regional Cultural Center, PO Box 246, New York Mills, MN 56567. Essays may also be submitted electronically on the Think-Off website, www.think-off.org, or by e-mail to nymills@kulcher.org.

The four essay winners will each participate in a debate of the question on Saturday, June 11 in NY Mills. Transportation and lodging for each essay winner will be provided by the cultural center.
