Delmer Bartels

Delmer Bartels, 78, of Henning, MN died on Monday June 29, 2009 at the Long Prairie Memorial Hospital in Long Prairie, MN. Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. on Friday July 3, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Henning with Pastor Randy Maland officiating. Music is provided by Doreen Salvog, organist and Richard Cloeter, vocalist. Interment is in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in Henning. Visitation is from 5 until 7 p.m. on Thursday July 2, at the Belmont Funeral Home in Henning and resumes for an hour prior to services at the church. Delmer Alvin Bartels was born at Clarissa, MN on February 8, 1931, the son of Arnold and Leona (Pieper) Bartels. He grew up in Leaf Mountain Township and attended school there. He then farmed with his father. He entered the United States Army on July 24, 1953 and was discharged on June 9, 1955. He returned to Minnesota and on July 14, 1956, was married to Kareen (Kay) Sarvela at St. Paul's Church in Henning. They made their home in the Henning area where he farmed and worked for Volden Construction. He also drove the milk truck for the Vining Co-op Creamery. Kay died on May 16, 2008.

Delmer is survived by his children: Diane (Peter) Hanebuth, Long Prairie, MN; Todd (Patricia) Bartels, Bemidji, MN; Stacy (Chris) Heinrichs, Worthington, MN; and Kevin (Julie) Bartels, of Fergus Falls, MN; a sister, Marlys Eckhoff, Henning; brothers: Duane (Joanne) Bartels, Clarissa; Arvid (Phyllis) Bartels, Alexandria, MN; Donald (Alice) Bartels, Melrose, MN, Ronald (Patricia) Bartels, Wadena, MN; and Alden (Phyllis) Bartels, Inver Grove Heights, MN; grandchildren, Melissa Kincaid, Jessica Martin, Jacqueline Quam, Heather Hanebuth, Jacob Hanebuth, and Amanda Mau; great-grandchildren, Summer, Marcus, Naomi, Kyle and Michael; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his wife; an infant son, Dean; and a daughter, Theone.
