Delores R. "Kitty" Hanson, 82, of Detroit Lakes, died Sunday, June 30, 2013 at Essentia Health-Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes.

Delores Ruth Ketterling was born to Edward and Emma Ketterling on February 19, 1931 in Artas, S.D. She grew up and attended school in Napoleon, N.D., graduating in 1949. She then attended the St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing in Fargo, where she became a Registered Nurse in 1952.

Over the next years she worked at the Jamestown Hospital in Jamestown, N.D., Finley Hospital in Dubuque, Iowa, and the Hazen Memorial Hospital in Hazen, N.D.

On August 22, 1954 she was united in marriage to Gunder R. Hanson in Napoleon. They lived in Hazen for a short while before moving to Perham, where her husband accepted a teaching position at the Perham Public Schools. In September of 1966 her husband accepted a position to teach at the Vocational and Technical College in Detroit Lakes.

Over the years Kitty worked at the Perham Hospital, St. Mary's Hospital in Detroit Lakes, and for 10 years at the office of Dr. Duane Wething, chiropractor, in Detroit Lakes. She retired in 1990.

She had been a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes since 1966. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Surviving Delores are her one daughter, Linda Hanson Bell of Larimore, N.D.; four sons, Gregory, of Medina, Minn., Jeffrey (Margit), of St. Paul, Timothy (Janet), of Moorhead and Daniel (Kathi), of Prior Lake, Minn.; eight grandchildren, Brady, Megan, Ryne, Taylor, Jackie, Jacob, Alexis and Dylan; two brothers, Clayton (Cynthia) Ketterling of Palm Bay, Fla., and James (Marlene) Ketterling, of Mesa, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Gunder (2011); her parents; one brother, Floyd Ketterling; and a niece, Pam Ketterling Cundiff.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, July 8 at Grace Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes, with interment at Oak Grove Cemetery, Detroit Lakes.

Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 7, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, at West-Kjos Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes.
