Dent Daze features farm fun, Chicken Stampede
Community Club members of the small East Otter Tail County town of Dent know how to celebrate in a big way.
The July 10 theme for the annual Dent Daze events will be "Fun on the Farm." The day will focus on kids and family with games and events including a beanbag tournament, pedal car races, a petting zoo, and 4-H horse rides.
The parade begins at 2:30 p.m., followed by team tug-of-war contests at 3:30. A dunking booth will be set up from noon to 2 p.m. One 'adults only' event is the poker run, from 10 a.m. until noon.
The petting zoo will be open from noon to 5 p.m., with kids games (25 cent tickets) from noon to 2 p.m. Pony rides will run from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.
To attend Dent Daze, follow Minnesota Highway 108 or County 35 to Dent. After that, no directions are needed because you'll immediately see all the activity.
Take a break from the fun and games and bring your appetite to the annual Chicken Stampede sponsored by the Dent Lions. They'll be serving chicken barbeque and all the side dishes from 4 until 7 p.m. To help raise funds for the good causes they sponsor, the fee is $8 for ages 13 and over, $5 for 5 to 12, and little ones four and under eat for free.
To reach the Chicken Stampede, drive down the hill toward the ball fields; the Lions shelter is on the right. It's called "stampede" for a reason-last year the tasty chicken was served to over 500 people.
Other afternoon Dent Daze events include the Methodist Church pie social at 4 p.m., kids tractor races at 4:30 p.m., and a beanbag tournament at 5 p.m.
