Close to 500 people flock to Dent for the annual Dent Daze, more than doubling the town's normal population of 194.

This year's "Beach Party" themed event will be held Saturday, July 14.

Dent Community Club member Stacey Fresonke invites everyone to come and "see a lot of people you don't normally get to see."

The festivities have expanded over the last couple of years, growing from a parade into an entire day of family-friendly fun and games.

For the athletic sort, the day begins early with a 5K race. Registration begins at the Dent Community Center at 8 a.m., with contestants racing at 9 a.m. Registration is $20.

Immediately following the 5K, kids can participate in a free 1K Fun Run.

The running continues with the annual Business Poker Run - which encourages players to run into participating local businesses throughout the morning to pick up playing cards. At noon, poker players meet up at the Dent Daze info booth, located on the corner of 1st Avenue and Maple Street, to play their hand. The player with the best cards wins a prize.

The fun continues from noon to 1:30 p.m. with kid's carnival games. With tickets set at just 25 cents, kids can try their luck at beanbag toss, ring toss, beach walk and other games without spending a fortune.

The parade is back this year with an expected 60 businesses and individuals participating. It will begin at 2 p.m. and head down 1st Avenue.

After the parade, kids will pile onto tractors and race, starting at 3 p.m. Immediately following that, at 4 p.m., will be team tug-of-war contests.

Folks can take a break from the games for a chicken supper sponsored by Dent Lions and pie at the Methodist Church, between 4-6 p.m.

As the food settles, bid on treasures at the American Legion's annual silent auction.

Dent Daze will conclude with the annual beanbag tournament at 6 p.m.

There is "something for everybody," at this year's Dent Daze, Fresonke said.

Dent is located southeast of Perham, where Minnesota Highway 108 and County Road 35 meet.
