Dent will have a kindergarten to grade 2 elementary school for another year.
A "transitional" year was approved by the Perham-Dent School Board May 7, at a special meeting held in the Dent gymnasium. Under the plan, recommended by Superintendent Tamara Uselman, Dent grade school students will be integrated into the Perham Heart of the Lake elementary school for the 2009-10 school year.
The recommendation follows a series of meeting with a coalition of Dent residents and business owners, school officials and staff. The goal
Enrollment in Dent was expected to slip from the current 62 to 50 for next year, and within three years, fall below 40. The transitional plan will save about $100,694 this school year, partly by eliminating one $45,000 a year teaching position.
