Dent hits a home run with new ballpark playground
Kids in Dent have a nice new place to slide, climb and monkey around.
After two years of fundraising, the Dent Community Club has installed new playground equipment at the town’s baseball park.
Featuring three slides, modern-style monkey bars, a built-in tic-tac-toe game and lots of climbing areas, the brightly-colored equipment was put together by community club members, Dent firefighters and other volunteers.
The bare-bones play set was installed at the ballpark about three weeks ago, with finishing touches just completed last week.
Kids playing there after school last Wednesday seemed more than happy with the result.
With an excited energy and big smiles, young siblings Michael, Madison and Katelin Kratzke, along with their friend Carson Byer, tested out all the new equipment.
When asked if they were having fun at the new playground, the kids all answered with an emphatic, “Yes!”
Community club members raised money for the playground equipment through events like their annual Mexican Fiesta and pancake breakfast fundraisers. Local moms and kids shared input when it came time to pick out the play set.
“We wanted to do this for the kids and families that come here for the ball games,” said Georgene Fresonke, a community club member and key fundraiser for the playground project. “This gives kids a nice place to play.”
John Kratzke, president of the club, said the play set would not have been possible without the support of the community and local businesses. Arvig, KLN, Dent Lions and Otter Tail Power were all major supporters of the project.
Kratzke added that a bigger slide and teeter-totters will be added in the spring.
Community club members will now focus their fundraising efforts on their next chosen project, an air conditioner for the Dent Community Center.
