Don Hoyhtya, 63, of St. Paul, MN, formerly of Henning, MN, passed away Saturday May 30, 2009, after a short battle with cancer. He was born to Ernest and Hulda Hoyhtya on May 4, 1946. He was born and raised in Leaf Lakes Township and attended school at District 135. Following graduation from Henning High School in 1964, he enlisted into the United States Navy and served on the U.S.S. Forrestal (CV-59) until 1968. After an honorable discharge, he worked in Minneapolis, MN as an airport cab driver for 32 years. Don enjoyed golfing, but mostly spending time with his family.
A memorial service was held at Mueller-Bies Funeral Home in Roseville, MN. Inurnment was Friday, June 5, at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; brother and sister-in-law, Emil and Nancy; brother-in-law, Marvin Lakso; and great-nephew, Scott Hoyhtya.
He is survived by Kittie; daughter, Michelle (Tony) Colaizy; grandchildren, Dan, Courtney, and Ryan; sisters, Mildred (Melvin) Helmrichs, Janet Lakso, and Phyllis (Rod) Haarstad; brothers, Harold, Wes (Barbara), and Steve (Ruby); and many relatives and friends.
