Former Detroit Lakes resident Dr. Oscar C. "Corky" Nord, 90, of Grand Forks, N.D. -- dentist, avid golfer, sportsman, grandfather and great-grandfather -- died peacefully Wednesday, May 7, 2008 in the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley at 4000 Valley Square, Grand Forks.
Oscar Clarence Nord was born the son of Gunnar and Bertha (Larson) Nord on Sept. 26, 1917 in Warren, Minn. He graduated from Detroit Lakes High School in 1935 and the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry in 1943. He practiced dentistry in Grand Forks for 35 years, until retiring in 1976. Oscar married Louise Paulson on Oct. 10, 1945 in St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Grand Forks. For the past 10 years the couple had made their home at their lake cabin near Detroit Lakes.
Surviving Oscar are his wife of 62 years, Louise; children, Nicki Louise (John) Puccio of Blairsville, Ga., Dr. John O. (Angie) Nord and Dr. James C. (Melody) Nord, both of Grand Forks; a brother, Dr. Orval W. Nord, also of Grand Forks; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents; sisters, Carolyn Stover, Alzada Cocking and Lorraine Nord; and brothers, Dr. J. Erling, Arnold and Harold Nord.
Memorial services were held Saturday, May 10, in the Chapel at Heritage Village (Good Samaritan Center), East Grand Forks, Minn.
Interment will take place at a later date in Oak Grove Cemetery, Detroit Lakes.
