Eagle wrestlers take two duals, fifth at Teiken Invite

The New York Mills wrestling team kept rolling along after their victory over Perham, defeating Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale 44-25 and taking home a nail biter versus Barnesville 32-31, by criteria.

Tyler Ehnert, Michael Meyer, Peter Stark, Seth Hofland and Tyler Patron all scored pins in the Eagles solid victory over Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale.

Jeremiah Harper got the Eagles on the scoreboard early with a tight 4-3 decision over Justin Goron.

New York Mills, 32 Barnesville 31

Tommy Selander and Shane Novak got the Eagles started on the right foot versus Barnesville.

Selander was victorious at 103 pounds, 6-4, over Connor Meyer. Novak scored a major decision, 14-2, over Stuart Brandt.

The Trojans won the next five matches, including a Hans Pepper major decision, 12-4, over Kyle Vorderbruggen and an Alex Trowbridge pin of Taylor Ericksrud.

Peter Stark turned the match momentum around pinning Trevor Nelson at 5:34 to bring the Eagles within six points, 19-13.

A Barnesville forfeit at 152 pounds leveled the match at 19.

Isaac Goedtke pinned Ty Bell at 1:14 to give the lead back to the Trojans, 25-19. Noah Pesola just missed a major victory, 12-5, over Kyle Johnson at 171 pounds to cut the deficit to 25-22.

The Eagles forfeited 189 pounds and were down nine points, 31-22, with two matches to go.

Tyler Patron made quick work at 215 pounds scoring a fall at just 29 seconds.

The match came down to the heavyweights with Barnesville holding a three-point advantage, 31-28.

Max Carlson saved the day defeating Maverick Brady, 7-5, to tie match at 31.

The match was decided and awarded to the Eagles on Criteria H (most first points).

Terry Teiken Invite

The Eagles had two individual champions at the Terry Teiken Invitational in Lake Park over the weekend. As a team, the Eagles finished fifth.

Tyler Patron, 189 pounds, and Shane Novak, 112 pounds, garnered the top spot in their weight classes.

Novak received a first round bye, before pinning Kenny Mark, of Moorhead, at 3:10. Novak scored a 1-0 decision in the finals over Fegus Falls' Abbot Aho.

Patron pinned Abram Aho, of the Otters, at 3:25 in his opening match. Pelican Rapids' Felix Baaragan met a similar fate. Patron pinned him at 4:27. In the finals, Patron duplicated Novak's feat, winning by one point, a 2-1 decision over Barnesville's Josh Harris.

Hofland and Stark made runs to the finals at 152 and 145 pounds.

Hofland pinned Barnesville's Cody Egge at 55 seconds, won a 5-1 decision over Cory McClung of Fosston-Bagley.

Derek Braseth of United Clay Becker, the former Lake-Park Audubon squad, had the home crowd with him in the finals. Braseth would squeak out an overtime victory, 4-2, over Hofland.

Stark cruised to the finals of the 145-pound class, defeating Moorhead's Ryan Schock, 12-3, and Pelican Rapids' Chris Bakken, 3-1. Matt Laugen, of Fergus Falls, proved too much in the finals defeating Stark, 7-1.
