Eagles to build around scoring of Snelgrove
After a 2-4 start to last season, the New York Mills Eagles basketball team was on fire winning 16 of their final 19 games before running into the Ulen-Hitterdal Spartans and an early exit from Section 6A playoffs in the first round 59-56 in Ulen.
The Spartans accounted for two of the Eagles' seven losses last season. They scored a 60-54 victory in NY Mills in early February.
The Eagles will need to wait until the same week of February, on the ninth, to exact revenge.
Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa battled Norman County East for the section title last season. BBE advanced to the state finals losing their only game of the season in the state finals to Springfield 70-58.
NY Mills' biggest hole will be to fill the vacancy left by 1,000-point scorer Isaiah Bauck.
Senior Adam Snelgrove will be counted upon and can shoot lights out from three-point land. Snelgrove is streaky and can take over a game quickly.
Bauck did a lot of his work in the paint and driving to the hoop and an inside presence will definitely keep opposing defenses from putting a tight hold on Snelgrove.
Sam Slieter is the only other senior on the team, along with four juniors Creedan Dunrud, Evan Menze, Charlie Peeters and Adam Kangas.
