Eagles dominate Raiders
The New York Mills boys basketball team improved to 7-2 in Section 6A North play and 14-5 overall after a convincing victory at Lake Park-Audubon. The Eagles got up early and cruised to a 66-46 win.
When Adam Snelgrove is hot shooting the Eagles can be very difficult to match up against. Snelgrove can light a team up from beyond the arc and he demoralized the Raiders early with three quick bombs and 15 first half points. He would sit most of the second half, along with most of the other starters. The reserves had the game under control.
Tristan Huwe joined Snelgrove with 16 points to lead all scorers. Spencer Imsande scored 10. Charlie Peeters had nine points off the bench.
The Eagles surpassed their scoring average while holding the Raiders under theirs, which is an obvious key to victory. This game was almost over on paper before the opening tip.
NY Mills held a 4-2 lead a few minutes into the game but a three from Isaiah Bauck, followed by Snelgrove from downtown and a steal on the next possession and layup from Huwe put the Eagles up 12-4 with 14:31 remaining in the first half.
Their lead would mushroom to 25-8, 28-10 and 37-16 at halftime.
Raider forward Adrian Bailey had eight first half points trying to keep Lake Park-Audubon in the game and Mitch Knudsvig made aggressive drives to the hoop trying to inspire some Raider offense. Bailey would finish with 11 points after being shutdown in the second half. Knudsvig led L-P-A with 14 points. No other Raider scored more than four points.
Bauck had seven points and many minutes of rest during the blowout. Frank Peeters added six points in limited playing time.
