The Bears ended a six-game home stand to start their season.

The Eagles came out with a lot of energy and confidence and shot the ball well against the Bears' 2-3 zone.

The Eagles hit from long range nailing six three-point field goals in the contest, but struggled taking care of the ball.

"We tried passing the ball through girls and then over girls and we ended up getting sloppy taking care of it," Head Coach JJ Weller said.

Defensively, The Eagles did not have an answer for Bertha-Hewitt's Arei Stokes.

"She had her way with us," Weller said. "We also weren't moving our feet well."

The Eagles gave Bertha 16 first half free throw attempts. The Bears made 14 of those attempts to jump out to a big 40-17 lead at the break.

"We need to learn from this and learn to take better care of the ball."

Jenna Esala scored 16 points to lead the Eagles. Amber Barvels added six points.

Lacey Guck and Ellie Rutten each had eight rebounds.

The loss drops NY Mills to 1-2 in the Park Region Conference standings. It is the third straight defeat for the Eagles. Bertha-Hewitt is 2-1 in the conference and have won three straight.

The Eagles traveled to Battle Lake (2-4) Tuesday, before returning home to a tough contest against #3, Class 1A Parkers Prairie (5-0) Thursday, Dec. 22.
