A conference title is not beyond the reach of the NY Mills Eagles baseball team.

The Eagles split a home doubleheader with Ottertail Central Tuesday, winning 10-5 in the opener before dropping game two 14-4.

According to Head Coach Chris Bushinger, the conference title is not something the team has discussed.

"We know that if we play good baseball--we can finish right up near the top,"

he said. "There's still a lot of baseball to be played--we're not even half way through our conference schedule--so there's still a lot that can happen--for any team."

A calm, sunny day with little wind had the ball flying off Eagle bats. Spencer Imsande, Jarrod Norton and Eric Wellgren all had solo home runs. Wellgren's would prove to be the game winner.

"The pop of the bat in game one was fun to see," Bushinger said. "It's been a long time since I've seen four hit in one game."

Jeff Hamann drilled a two-run shot for Ottertail Central.

Bushinger noted there was almost a fifth home run in the game. Mason Roberts hit the 315 sign on the left field fence.

The bats were backed up by another consistent performance from Ted Rohr on the mound. Rohr scattered eight hits and struck out four batters allowing the defense to do much of the work behind him.

"His control has gotten better and he really did a good job on Tuesday night with getting ahead of the hitters and letting his defense help him out," said Bushinger.

The Eagles roughed up starting pitcher Jared Green and reliever Ben Woodman for 11 hits. Norton swung the big stick going 3-4 with two RBI. Seven starters had base hits and eight reached safely in the game.

Lead off hitter Tanner Wegscheid continued to be a pest on the base paths scoring twice and reaching third in his other trips. He reached on a single and walked three times. Wegscheid was only retired once in the two games.

Bulldogs 14 Eagles 4

The Eagles knew they were in for a dogfight in game two against Bulldog ace Hamann.

"He's a crafty left-hander," Bushinger said.

Hamann would give up four runs, three earned on seven hits to the Eagles. NY Mills also had seven hits but the difference in the game was on the mound.

Starter Adam Snelgrove and relievers Norton and Imsande all got themselves into trouble. The trio walked seven batters and hit five in a wild display from the rubber. Snelgrove did strike out seven Bulldog batters before being pulled after three innings.

Game Notes: Two stellar outfield assists were made in game one. Mason Roberts ended a two-run second inning on a relay throw from centerfielder Derek Gaudette. Roberts gunned down Bulldog Gunnar Kimber at third base. Kimber tried to stretch a double into a triple and appeared to have it in hand when Roberts' throw from centerfield was right on the glove of Snelgrove who applied the tag. The out held the Eagle lead at 3-2.

The Eagle lead could have been increased in the bottom of the inning if it wasn't for a terrific throw from Bulldog center fielder Collin Teich. Eagle left fielder Mike Cichy rounded third heading for the plate on a single by Tristin Huwe but was out on a close call from the umpire on Teich's missle from the outfield.
