Summer is nearing and that means it is playoff time. The New York Mills softball team enters 6A south sub-section play as the number five seed where they will face a familiar foe: the number four Pillager Huskies.

The teams have squared off three times this season with the Eagles coming out on top twice by scores of 10-7 and 5-2. The lone Husky victory was a 9-7 win the first time the teams met in mid-April.

A win will pit the Eagles against the number one seeded Bertha-Hewitt Bears, assuming they get past the winner of the play-in game between eighth-seeded Verndale and ninth-seeded Brandon-Evansville. The Bears hold a record of 13-6. Pillager ended the season at 10-10.

The Eagles wrapped up regular season play winning five of seven games to finish 9-11.

The Eagles took three of their final four games, a split with number three seeded Parkers Prairie 5-3 and an 8-6 loss before sweeping north subsection four seed Sebeka 9-4 and 9-0.

EmaLeigh Roberts led the way against Parkers Prairie with three hits and three RBI in both games. Kendra McCall hit safely three times with an RBI.

Eagles 9, Trojans 4

The Trojans were never in the game. NY Mills jumped out to an early lead and kept adding to it.

Micaela Lausten scored what would prove to be the game winner in the third inning.

McCall, Samantha Weller and RaeAnna Salo all scored twice for the Eagles. Esala and Weller hit safely thrice. Esala had four RBI in the game.

Eagles 9, Trojans 0

A six-run fifth inning and three in the seventh put the finishing touches on an end of season sweep.

EmaLeigh and Autumn Roberts both had three hits to lead the way at the plate, Autumn scoring twice. McCall also rounded the bags two times and knocked two in from the leadoff spot.

Full tournament brackets are available on the Focus sports page.
