Eagles softball victors of three of four
After a rough sweep at Menahga to start the season where the Braves outscored the Eagles 25-5 in both games, New York Mills has evened their record at 3-3 taking three of the past four games.
The Eagles pounded out a 19-3 victory at Parkers Prairie before earning a split at Sebeka taking the first game 8-6 and dropping the nightcap 16-10.
Finally returning home, the Eagles faced Wadena-Deer Creek looking to even their record at three wins and losses.
The Wolverines got up early scoring in the first three innings for a 6-0 lead.
The Eagles answered with four in the bottom half of the third with four runs cutting the deficit to two.
Both teams put up a trio of runs in the fifth heading to the late innings with Wadena-Deer Creek up 9-7.
A five run outburst in the bottom of the sixth would ice the game for NY Mills. The Wolverines got one in the seventh but it was not enough. NY Mills hung on for a 12-10 victory.
Jenna Esala led the Eagles at the plate going 3-4 with a walk, two runs scored, knocking in three.
Megan Cole and Amy Nebosis had two hits each. Nebosis drove in three runs and scored twice,
Cole earned two bases on balls and stole two bags. She knocked in a run, scored one.
Rankka scored twice, reaching base four times on three walks and a base hit.
Both teams pounded out 11 hits in sketchy weather. The Eagles overcame five errors in the field to just one for WDC.
Autumn Roberts got the win pitching in relief of Alexis Rankka. Rankka pitched four innings, allowing eight runs, six hits and six walks, fanning two.
Roberts allowed two runs on five hits, walked one and fanned three.
Amanda Perkins took the loss pitching the entire game for WDC.
