Elizabeth I Hansen Lura Marweg Davis, 89, Fargo, N.D., died August 6 at Villa Maria in Fargo. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, August 23, at 10 a.m. at Pontoppidan Lutheran Church in Fargo, with Pastor Doug Klungtvedt officiating.
Elizabeth Davis, known as Betty or Liz, was born on January 14, 1925, to Anna and Soren Hansen. She was born on the Hansen farm, in rural Hawley, Minn., where she also grew up. She married Orvis Lura and they lived outside of Glyndon, Minn., moving for a short time to Montana and then returning to Glyndon to raise their four sons. She later married Elmer Marweg and moved to their lake home outside of Dent after two years. They later moved into Perham. Following Elmer's death, she moved to Dilworth, Minn., where she met and married Bob Davis on May 1, 2010.
Betty spent most of her life as a homemaker and entertainer. She is remembered for her excellent breads and rolls. Betty truly loved music. She played the guitar and sang in small bands for most of her life and she amazed people with her exceptional yodeling skills. In later years, the band played at many local assisted living facilities where people enjoyed the classic country music tunes that are seldom heard now. She also enjoyed knitting, playing cards, watching softball games and traveling. Her message to family and friends was "Laugh always."
Betty is survived by her four sons: Orville (Debra) Lura, Gerald (Bonnie) Lura, Dale (Cindy) Lura and Dennis (Gayle) Lura; along with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, who died shortly after birth; husbands: Orvis Lura, Elmer Marweg, and Bob Davis; three sisters, Carrie Johnson, Inger Robertson and Mae Weaver; and three brothers, Charlie Han-sen, Harry Hansen and Floyd Hansen.
Memorials can be sent to Hospice of the Red River Valley or Pontopiddan Lutheran Church.
