Elsie Louise Hofland
Elsie Louise Hofland, 79, of Perham, MN, died Saturday, June 27, 2009, at the Perham Memorial Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 2, at 11 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Perham, with Father James Bernauer officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 1, at Schoeneberger Funeral Home, Perham, from 4-8 p.m. with a prayer service and rosary at 7 p.m.
Elsie was born January 22, 1930, in Marietta, MN, to Dan and Ruth (Olson) Shields. They moved to Glyndon, MN, and then to Perham in 1939. Elsie enjoyed her high school years playing her baritone in the band, and graduated in 1948. She married Harry Hofland on October 23, 1951, in Long Beach, CA. They moved back to Perham, started a business, raised a family, and became lifelong residents of the area.
Elsie was a wellknown figure around town. She worked as a bookkeeper in several businesses including Hofland Construction, Nundahls, Haybellys, and was the treasurer of the bowling league for many years. She also was an involved member of St. Stans Church and volunteered at the Perham Public Library. Most of all, Elsie loved spending time with her family and friends and will be sorely missed by all. She was dearly loved as a wife, mother, sister, and friend.
Elsie is survived by five children, Shirley (Michael) Alvar, Duluth, MN; Stewart (Jane) Hofland, Perham; Scott (Marilyn) Hofland, Perham; Ronald (Mayme) Hofland, Fergus Falls, MN; and Wanda Hofland, Brooklyn Center, MN; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Bette Smith, Battle Lake, MN and Maren Ann Hoium, Marietta, MN.
Preceding Elsie in death are her parents; husband, Harry; daughter, Linda; and sister, Evelyn.
