EMS Week 2008 is May 18-24

Emergency Medical Services Week brings together local communities and medical personnel to publicize safety and honor the dedication of those who provide the day-to-day lifesaving services of medicine's "front line."
Perham EMS is a growing service covering about 450 square miles in Otter Tail and Becker Counties. The territory includes the towns of Perham, New York Mills, Dent, Richville, Vergas and Ottertail. We also cover 12 townships in the area including Perham, Edna, Gorman, Corliss, Dora, Evergreen, Butler, Ottertail, Dead Lake, Pine Lake, Star Lake, Otto, and Rush Lake.
Perham EMS currently staffs one to two ambulances 24 hours per day, seven days per week with a Paramedic and an Emergency Medical Technician.
The full time staff is supplemented with a volunteer staff of 15.
The full time staff members are EMS Director Jim Rieber, Operations Coordinator/Paramedic Mark Ebeling, Training Coordinator/Paramedic Doug Harthan, EMT Barb Bjorklund, Paramedic Kevin Swenson, EMT Andrea Young, Part-time Paramedic Brad Schmidt and Administrative Assistant Fran Knutson.
Perham EMS is a Paramedic Advanced Life Support (ALS) Service. We respond to emergency 911 calls and emergency hospital-to-hospital transfers. We also provide advanced cardiac12 Lead EKG, specialized transfer care for patients on the ventilators and also the continuous positive airway pressure machines. Perham Area EMS in cooperation with MeritCare Health System and Lifeflight provide rapid intervention heart care and stroke care.
Perham EMS provides numerous training options including CPR, 1st Aid, 1st responder, EMT-basic, emergency vehicle operations, and Bio-Terrorism response and operation. Also provided are refresher courses for emergency care.
Several events are hosted throughout the year--including EMS Week, Pancake Breakfast, Turtle Fest Parade, Bingo, East Otter Tail Fair, Ottertail Tractor Pull, standby for Perham Football and any other events that may involve the need of medical care.
"We appreciate all the community support and donations that we receive each year," said director Jim Rieber. "These donations allow us to upgrade our equipment and also provide 'state of the art' equipment to our customers."
To celebrate EMS Week we will be having an open house at the Perham Emergency Services building on Wednesday, May 21, 2008 from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. with a free lunch and tours of our facility and equipment.
