Rural Perham murder: Pipe wrench reportedly used in brutal killing of mother, son

Our beautiful little girl, Eva Dianne Hoaby, was born on Dec. 14, 2008, to the proud parents of Joshua and Ashlee (Hersch) Hoaby, at the Perham Memorial Hospital in Perham. Words cannot express how much you are loved, and always will be.

Eva was always above average as she was reading before age one, and entertained family with flashcards. Over the next year as Eva learned to talk, she read billboards, signs, books and everything in between. Eva took pleasure in being outside, driving her jeep, playing in the park and jumping on the trampoline with her friends. She loved to be a Princess; she was so kind and thoughtful to her family and friends.

On Aug. 30, 2013, Eva passed away at home surrounded by her loving family after a courageous, love-filled battle with an inoperable brain tumor, at 4 years of age. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Lovingly meeting her in heaven are Eva's great-grandparents, Dorothy Hersch and Joe Mather. We know they are taking good care of you.

We all miss you so much, Mom and Dad; your sister, Lyla; Grandparents, Kim and Mark Wright and Al Hersch, Pam Mather and John and Linda Hoaby; Great-grandparents, Carol Miller and Ellen Mather; all of your aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

All children are angels, Eva; now you have your wings.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Sept. 7 at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New York Mills with Pastor Muriel Hachfeld officiating. Eva will be laid to rest in Woodland Cemetery in New York Mills.

Arrangements are with Karvonen & Son Funeral Home of New York Mills. Tributes may be posted online at
