No one was hurt in a house fire in New York Mills Wednesday morning, according to Fire Chief Reed Jacobson.

Two brothers, Logyn and Jesse Saewert were home at the time.

"I woke up and my room was black," Logyn said.

His brother Jesse had escaped the house and called 911.

Both brothers were running on lack of sleep, as a earlier family crisis had them at the emergency room overnight, not returning home until after 4 a.m.

"I don't think it could get much worse," he said.

Jacobson said two people were in the home, but one had left before the fire broke out. That person was Jesse Saewert.

A passing citizen, unknown to Logyn, saw the smoke and assisted him in crawling out a side window.

"I saw him and he yelled, 'get out of there!'" Logyn said, visibly shaken but calmly.

Neither brother suffered injuries or severe smoke inhalation.

The home, at 121 Broadway Ave. N., was a complete loss, the chief said.

The Perham Fire Department, New York Mills Police Department and Otter Tail County Sheriff's Office assisted on the scene.

Steve Schulz, of the Wadena Pioneer Journal, contributed to this story.
