Expect excess odor into next week
After a brief reprieve in early July, odor from the wastewater treatment ponds may be excessive again through the next few days, due to the disturbance and movement of sludge at the bottom of an empty pond.
Dredging and pumping of the sludge from a primary pond into a holding pond started last week and will continue into next week, in order to get it to a level that’s acceptable for the new aeration equipment being installed as part of the major expansion project going on at the facility.
An email from City Manager Kelcey Klemm on Monday explained that the pond will then be refilled and balance tested, and the new aeration equipment will be installed in coming weeks.
Installation of a synthetic liner in the new 20-acre holding pond should begin next week.
The excess odor should subside by the middle of next week.
