Fair board gets grant to update open class area
Fairgoers at the East Otter Tail County Fair will notice new changes in the open class area in the main exhibit building.
The Minnesota Department of Agriculture has awarded a grant to update the open class area at the fairgrounds.
It is the goal of the East Otter Tail County Fair Board to increase awareness about the open class area, and to increase the number of exhibitors and exhibits coming into the fair.
The open class area will have a new aesthetic appeal as fairgoers and exhibitors enter and participate in activities in the exhibit building. The facelift is intended to appeal to all ages and members of the community.
New features of the open class area will include: new tables, new display cases and tri-tiered rolling display tables, and a fresh coat of paint. There will also be some remodeling done to make it feasible to display the open class exhibits in a more friendly fashion.
In addition to these changes, Open Class Superintendent Monique Rossow has announced a new entry schedule, as well as a new division of amateur beer and wine making. This new division is expected to have a lot of entries. Classes will be available for beer, wine, and hard cider.
Entry days for open class exhibits will be Tuesday, July 23 and Wednesday, July 24 from 3-8 p.m. each day. Judging of the open class items will occur on Thursday, July 25 starting at 9 a.m. Open class entries will only be accepted by appointment on Thursday. 4-H non-livestock entry day will be Tuesday, July 23 from 1-6 p.m.
