Surprises galore await show-goers, as "Cinderella" takes the Perham High School auditorium stage for a three-day run Nov. 20-22.

The annual Perham Community Musical follows the familiar Disney version of the "Cinderella" story, but with some surprise variations. The music is also original, rather than the Disney songs.

More surprises will unfold on stage, with "special effects" by Larry Wankel, and a creative set design by Bonnie Tweeton.

"There will be some magic on stage," said Chuck Johnson, who plays the role of the King, stopping short of revealing any secrets-so the audience will be surprised. One hint: The appearance of the magical carriage will be a scene to watch for.

Longtime community theater director Kevin Kosiak, after a two year break, is back on the scene, coordinating a large cast and crew.

Colorful costumes, somewhat similar to those presented when Perham staged "Beauty and the Beast," were obtained by Kosiak from a professional theater company.

Directing his first orchestra for a Perham musical is school music educator Kurt Hoesley. But that doesn't mean he's a "rookie," as he has been on stage for a dozen shows over the years. He has also directed or assisted in at least six shows previously in his career.

"The music isn't maybe as recognizable as the Disney version, but it has some really beautiful melodies," said Hoesley.

Performance dates are Friday, November 20 at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, November 21 at 7:30 p.m.; and Sunday, November 22 at 2 p.m.

Ticket prices are $10 for adults, $7 for senior citizens age 65 and older, and $7 for children and students.

Tickets will be available at the door up until curtain time.
