Fire at Kenny’s Candy damages product
Perham Minnesota 222 2nd Avenue SE 56573

The Perham Fire Department responded to a fire at Kenny’s Candy at 8:10 a.m. last Thursday.

Perham Fire Chief Mark Schmidt said the fire was in the building’s air handling system.

Employees in the building were able to slow the fire down with extinguishers, he said, and the fire crew finished putting it out.

Schmidt said damage to products in the building was estimated to be between $15,000 and $20,000.

A representative from KLN Family Brands declined to comment on the incident.

The fire’s cause was, in part, attributed to the R.D. Offutt Co. potato warehouse fire that had started Tuesday, downwind from Kenny’s Candy. The air exchangers at the candy plant had been shut down to avoid drawing in smoke from outside.
