On Feb. 27, firefighters responded to a house fire at 513 Pine Tree Drive a little after 5 a.m.

Fire was located in the walls around the chimney and was contained quickly, Schmidt said. Firefighters were on the scene for about an hour and a half, he said.

"They did a good job containing the fire right to the wall and the homeowners were back in the home about four hours later," Schmidt said.

He believes the fire was started due to excess heat in the fireplace. He estimated up to $5,000 in damage, mostly related to smoke.

Schmidt also reminded residents to make sure to check smoke detectors.

Later in the day Sunday at about 3:15 p.m., the fire department was dispatched to the scene of a rollover crash at U.S. Highway 10 and County Highway 53.

An adult male was transported by Perham Fire and EMS to the Perham Memorial Hospital.

"The victim had to be extricated and we used the Jaws of Life to cut the roof off of the pickup to remove the victim."

Schmidt said the vehicle was a 1992 Ford Ranger.
