Firefighters conduct training burn
The New York Mills Fire Department took part in some valuable fire training March 28 with a controlled burning of a house north of town.
The home belonged to Brent and Holly Gudmundson, who offered the vacated house to the fire department for the training burn. The Gudmundsons will build their new house on the site this spring and summer.
The burn gave new and experienced firefighters a chance to study fire behavior in an active burning structure. The exercise also provided valuable experience in safe firefighter tactics and procedure regarding extinguishing fire, as well as search and rescue tactics.
The burn also gave firefighters the opportunity of continued education on equipment and truck usage in a real fire situation.
Members of the Bluffton Fire Department also participated in the drill.
