Fish houses burglarized on Rusch Lake

Four fish houses were the target of recent burglaries on Rusch Lake, north of Dent.

Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Deputies said padlocks on the doors of each fish house had been cut, allowing the thief or thieves to gain entry inside.

The break-ins likely took place Dec. 27 and 28. A total of $1,300 worth of fishing gear and other items was stolen.

The fish houses are owned by Terrance Lehman of Perham, Darwin Bartel of Frazee, Shane Germolus of Perham and David Saewert of Dent, the sheriff’s office reported.

Taken from one fish house were a chisel, four rattle wheels, assorted tools, a radio and assorted fishing gear in a tackle box. The approximate value of these items is $250.

Missing from another were two fish spears, a chisel, two ice dippers, four ice fishing reels and poles, and close to 30 hand-made fish decoys, valuing about $450.

From another fish house, a propane tank, 20 decoys, a rattle wheel, two poles/reels, tackle box and assorted lures were stolen. The approximate value of these items is $200.

From the fourth fish house, a deep cell battery was stolen along with a chisel, heater, propane tank and lantern – a total value of $400.

Rusch Lake is located in Edna Township, east of the intersection of Highways 35 and 34.

An investigation into the burglaries is ongoing.
