Fishing boat collides with pontoon on Rush Lake
Four people suffered minor injuries after a fishing boat crashed into a pontoon Tuesday morning on Rush Lake.
The pontoon boat, which was stationary in the water, was hit on the side by the fishing boat around 9:30 a.m., according to the Otter Tail County Sheriff's Office. Four passengers were on board each boat at the time of the crash.
The driver of the fishing boat said he did not see the pontoon until the crash was unavoidable, as his vision was obstructed.
The driver of the fishing boat suffered neck and back pain. A passenger in the same boat sustained a leg injury; both were transported to Perham Memorial Hospital. Two riders of the pontoon boat also went to the hospital, one for a minor concussion, said Jill Holmstrom, a resort manager on the lake.
Both boats were severely damaged, but did not sink, according to the sheriff's office. Holmstrom said the pontoon boat was purchased by the owner 12 days prior to the accident.
Alcohol is not believed to be a factor.
Otter Tail Rescue and Perham Emergency Services responded to the scene.
