"Obviously a very big win for us, not only to get that first victory but also because we played a very good game," New York Mills Head Coach Matt Radniecki said. "Shane and the kick return team have done a nice job all season giving us good field position."

Novak also scored the Eagles' third touchdown on a three-yard run and was 2-4 in point-after kicks.

New York Mills held advantages in all facets of the game. They outrushed the Knights 228-214, kept penalties to a minimum, scored on special teams and won the ever-important turnover battle 4-1.

"We talked all week about winning the turnover battle and we did that in creating four turnovers," Radniecki said. "Turnovers are momentum builders, stoppers or starters and it was nice to be plus-3 in the turnover department this week."

Tyler Patron got loose from the backfield against the nights topping the 100-yard mark with 108 and a touchdown.

Patron did most of his damage in the second half helping the Eagles control the clock. His two-yard touchdown was the only scoring in the fourth quarter and sealed the victory.

"Tyler Patron played big for us and was a horse gaining 108 yards rushing and most of those came in the second half. He was tough to take down and the line had good push."

The battle at the line of scrimmage has not gone the Eagles' way through the first four games, but in game five they came alive and early momentum and having a lead led to success in all areas of the game.

"All three phases of the game went well and it was a big bonus to return the opening kick-off."

That return marked the first time all season the Eagles have led in the first quarter.

Quarterback Charlie Peeters bounced back from a tough game against K-M-S with his best game of the season.

"I thought our quarterback did an excellent job of playing smart football. He made some big completions on four third down plays to keep drives alive and that was huge for us."

Peeters hit Noah Pesola for a touchdown just before halftime to keep the Eagles momentum going into the break. Peeters also scored from a yard out in the first quarter.

The Eagles led 26-14 at halftime.

Aside from causing four turnovers, the Eagles defense improved in making tackles and shut down the Knights to preserve field position and the victory.

After the Eagles lone turnover, the defense forced a three-and-out and got the momentum away from West Central.

The Eagles improve to 1-4 overall and 1-2 in the Prairie South Conference.

West Central Area falls to 1-4 and 0-3.

This coming Friday is the Homecoming game for the Eagles. They face Ottertail Central (4-1, 2-1).
