Football: Park Rapids nips Perham C-team 8-7
The Perham C-Team lined up against a tough Park Rapids team last Monday and came away with an 8-7 loss.
Perham moved the ball well and was able to convert a couple of key third downs on the first drive of the game.
Nick Winkels was on the end of a 30-yard pass by Mason Malikowski that moved the chains and led to a Jackets TD by Sam Muer.
Muer converted the PAT and made it 7-0 Jackets.
The Jackets defense stifled the Park Rapids offense for much of the half, moving them backwards numerous times.
The Jackets came out in the second half and moved the ball well. The offensive line started getting some great pushes and Perham was able to get big chunks of yardage on a number of runs.
Park Rapids came back strong and forced Perham into a couple of third and longs and eventually intercepted a Perham pass and ran it back into Perham territory.
The Jackets defense held their own and forced a turnover on downs. As the fourth quarter rolled around the Jackets were still up 7-0, and had the ball on their own 20-yard line.
Perham was forced to punt and a bad snap led to the Jackets' punter scrambling for the first down only to get stopped behind the line of scrimmage.
Park Rapids would take that good field position and score on the first play to make the game 7-6. The Panthers lined up for two and were able to punch the ball in as the Jackets tackled the ball carrier just across the goal line and made the game 8-7 Park Rapids.
Perham would only have one more possession as Park Rapids forced a turnover on downs and ran out the clock by getting three first downs. Perham's next game is this Thursday, Oct. 6 in Pelican Rapids.
