The Yellowjacket freshman football team started on a great note traveling to Hawley and winning 26-0.

Perham's first offense possession saw some good runs, only to be pushed back by some yellow flags forcing Perham to punt on their first series.

The Jackets defense wouldn't be out there for long, as they intercepted Hawley on the first play of the drive. Jesse Klatt was in tremendous position getting a hand on the ball while Everette Briard corralled the ball for the interception.

The Jackets used the momentum and pounded the ball down around the 5-yard line, and Dylan Perrine rushed from five yards out to put the Jackets up 6-0. After an unsuccessful two-point conversion the Jackets went back to defense.

The score remained 6-0 until late in the second quarter when Cole Carignan scampered in for a 21-yard touchdown. Perrine completed a couple of passes to Aaron Wilschewski to set up the score. Perrine then completed a nice pass to Josh Germolus for the two-point conversion.

With the score 14-0, the Jackets forced a three-and-out and had a nice punt return to give the Jackets great field position.

After another Jacket penalty, Perham would have 30 seconds and three timeouts to put some more points on the scoreboard. Perrine once again found Germolus who leaked behind the secondary, the pass was a little short but great concentration and a little luck the ball found Germolus in stride and he sprinted into the end zone to give the Jackets a 20-0 lead.

Perham came out running the ball in the second half, moving the ball down the field while chewing up the clock.

The defense played stout the rest of the game, recovering two fumbles, forcing two three-and-outs, and returning multiple punts over 20 yards.

Chase Curtis put an exclamation point on the game as he ran into the end zone in the fourth quarter, making the score 26-0. Patrick Murphy attempted the extra point, but it was wide left and left the score 26-0.

Perham's next game will be Monday September 10th, at Detroit Lakes.
