Former school board member appointed in NY Mills
A new school board member with a familiar face has been appointed to a board vacancy in the district.
The New York Mills School Board appointed Chuck Jacobson to the open seat vacated by Lapene Maijala, who last month was hired by the district as Technology Supervisor.
Jacobson was a long-time NYM School Board member until he retired in 2006 will serve out the remaining year of the 4-year position until next November's election.
Tim Kupfer, board president, commented at Monday's board meeting four people came forward following Maijala's resignation and expressed interest in being appointed to the position. The board decided to appoint Jacobson based on his prior experience on the board and, Kupfer said, let the voters decide next year who to elect to the position for a 4-year term.
Kupfer also said Monday that Jacobson only plans to serve out this term and is not interested in running in next November's election.
Board member Rachel Grieger also pointed out Jacobson already has gone through the necessary training to be on the board.
The board passed a resolution Monday issueing and awarding the sale of $137,000 General Obligation Certificates. The certificates will be used to pay for the city street project assessments.

Teri Bauck will move from the classroom to be the district's Reading First literacy coach. The board approved the move Monday and Bauck will leave her 2nd grade classroom to take the literacy coach for grades K-3 teachers position full time.
Joye Peterson was appointed as long-term sub for 2nd grade.
Connie Kawlewski resigned as assistant volleyball coach.
