Fourth quarter rally leads Blazers over injured Wolves 117-110
Wesley Matthews added 21 points and six assists and rookie C.J. McCollum scored a season-high 19 points off the bench as the Trail Blazers won for the third time in seven games. Nicolas Batum contributed 15 points and Damian Lillard chipped in 14 for Portland.
Ricky Rubio recorded 25 points and nine assists for the Timberwolves, who played without Kevin Love (quad), Nikola Pekovic (ankle) and Kevin Martin (thumb). Corey Brewer scored 26 points and Chase Budinger added a season-high 19 points while starting in place of Martin.
The Timberwolves held an 87-85 lead after J.J. Barea's layup with 9:45 left but went the next five minutes without a field goal as the Blazers took control. McCollum's free throws put Portland on top and Aldridge poured in the last six points of a 13-1 burst to push the lead to double figures.
Brewer's three-point play cut the deficit back to 101-96 with 3:29 to play but Matthews responded with a 3-pointer and added a pair of free throws to help put it away. Minnesota led by as much as seven points late in the third quarter before Lillard led a 9-1 surge to close out the period and send it into the fourth knotted at 83.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Love and Pekovic are day-to-day while Martin will be out indefinitely after suffering a non-displaced fracture of his thumb on Friday. ... Dante Cunningham recorded 14 points and 10 rebounds out of Love's starting spot while Ronny Turiaf had 13 rebounds and eight points in place of Pekovic. ...
