On Saturday, Jan. 29, a crowd of over 200 braved the cold to watch the Frazee Sled Dog Races. Over 75 sled dogs raced throughout the day on old Highway 10 by Frazee.
The day's four races took place in the following order: Skijoring, four-dog pro, six-dog pro and eight-dog pro. The mushers in each category were released en mass.
Cierra Duval of Brainerd, Minn., won 3 1/2 mile skijoring race with a time of 12 minutes, 11 seconds. Don McNeece, of Bemidji, Minn. won the four-dog pro with a time of 18 minutes, 18 seconds. Amy Streeper's time in the six-dog pro was 20 minutes, 13 seconds, finishing just ahead of her husband, Ed, who won the eight-dog pro with a time of 29 minutes, 10 seconds.
"Ed has competed in more races and in more places than anyone else in the world," Amy Streeper said after the six-dog race. "I was happy to beat him."
The races were organized by the Frazee Sled Dog Club. The club's president is Neal Seeger of Detroit Lakes.
