Fred Sailer announces retirement
PERHAM -- Fred Sailer, Perham Public Schools Activities Director, announced his retirement during last week's school board meeting. Sailer will continue in his numerous capacities until the end of the school year.
Sailer began his career in Perham as the Community Education and Public Relations Director and has served Perham Public Schools and the city in many different capacities over the last 34 years.
Sailer cited a desire to do something different and plans to stay busy.
"I have to do something," he said.
Sailer is currently the high school Activities Director for grades 7-12, Community Education Director, and Director of Perham Area Learning Center. He has also headed many community projects, most recently, as Chair of the Ballpark Committee that spearheaded the upgrade to Tuffy's Stadium and Krueger Field. Sailer also contributed to the the public library, community center, and hospital upgrades, as well as, school projects, including the all-weather track, two concession/lavatory projects and three new school buildings.
Sailer was a National Youth Leadership scholarship recipient, named Minnesota Community Education Director of the Year, and was selected by Newsweek Magazine as one of 50 educators nationally for his influence on first year educators.
Fred and his wife Sue have two children; Carolyn and her husband Mike and daughter Addison, their son Mark and his wife Erika.
