'Friends' plan 5th annual event to end hunger
Tickets are now on sale for the fifth annual "Friends of Friends Fighting Hunger" charity event.
This annual event will take place at Thumper Pond Resort in Ottertail on Jan. 26, 2013. The evening will include a social and auction beginning at 5 p.m., followed by dinner and dancing to the fantastic sounds of the "Fat Daddy's."
The event will primarily benefit the Children's Hunger Back Pack Program for children in Otter Tail County who may not otherwise have food resources on the weekend and long holidays away from school. Currently there are 332 children enrolled in this program.
Remaining funds will go to support the seven food shelves in Otter Tail County and mobile food drops for persons in need coordinated by United Way.
"The Friends of Friends Fighting Hunger event is critical to residents in need in Otter Tail County," said Arne Gudmestad, Committee Chair of Friends of Friends Fighting Hunger.
"The holidays are just around the corner, and there are many who will be seeking assistance from the hunger initiatives we support," Gudmestad added. "Each year this event has had a sold out guest list and we are hoping to have a fifth sold out event to support this very important cause."
Tickets are $50 per person and are available at the United Way office (at 120 East Washington Avenue in Fergus Falls), or by calling United Way at 1-877-457-2185 or 218-736-5147.
Since 2009, the Friends of Friends Fighting Hunger in Otter Tail County have been behind the scenes working to prevent hunger for thousands of individuals and children in local communities. To date, this group of volunteers has raised more than $286,000.
United Way is serving as a partner and fiscal host for the Friends of Friends group. United Way's mission is to improve lives in Otter Tail County by mobilizing the caring powers in the community.
